All-cause mortality data
These data are used in the relative survival calculations for excess deaths.
Small area (SA2 level)
Mortality data for all causes of death combined during 2006 to 2014 were obtained from the Registries of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Key data variables included sex, year of death, age (grouped into 5-year aggregates for calculations) and geographical area.
The geographical area information was provided by Statistical Local Area (SLA) for the years 2006-2011 and by SA2 for the years 2009-2014. The SLA information for the earlier years (2006-2009) were converted to SA2 using year specific concordance files provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. [Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS): Correspondences (July 2011) – 1270.0.55.006]
All-cause mortality data at the National level by sex, year of death and single-year age group were obtained from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
